Redefining homebuilding one space at a time

Welcome to our “Faces of the BIA” series! We are excited to introduce you to the businesses and people behind our Building Industry Association. It’s all about fostering connections, celebrating our members and helping you get to know the incredible companies that make up our BIA family!

Founded in 2023, AB Brothers is a residential and commercial builder serving the Fargo-Moorhead and surrounding lakes area. The company is a family endeavor established by two sets of brothers who share passion for construction and real estate development. With over 30 years of combined experience, founders Cory Althoff, Kyle Althoff, Josh Benson and Jordan Benson created AB Brothers to create intentional and thoughtful residential and commercial builds that cater to the needs of each individual client.

Cory Althoff, president, brings passion and enthusiasm into his role at AB Brothers. Unique experiences shape his journey to become a home builder. Before becoming a general contractor, Cory served in the United States Army Special Forces (commonly known as the Green Beret) as part of the 10th Special Forces Group (SFG) based out of Fort Carson, Colorado. During his time in the 10th SFG, he served as a special forces communication sergeant (18E) on a 12-man operational detachment alpha (A-Team).

“I joined the Army with the pursuit of becoming a Green Beret because I love our country and I wanted to be a part of a team bigger than myself that required a certain level of grit to attain, but to also help those in need in some of the most austere environments around the world. I feel very fortunate that I was able to accomplish that during my time in the military,” Cory says.

Cory’s time in the military taught him the value of discipline, resilience and teamwork — skills that now guide his approach to building homes with his team. After leaving the military, Cory transitioned into the construction industry by starting Althoff Homes, which specialized in remodeling projects and finishing carpentry.

He gained firsthand experience working in various aspects of the building process before co-founding AB Brothers with his team. At AB Brothers, no two homes are the same. Cory and his team are dedicated to collaborating with architects, designers and homeowners to create a space for clients that demonstrates design excellence and uniqueness to each client’s lifestyle.

“We believe the building process should be an easygoing and enjoyable experience, starting with your initial concepts until well after you’ve moved in,” Cory says.

Cory learned about the Building Industry Association by attending the golf outings and attending the Fall and Spring Parade of Homes.

In 2024, AB Brothers joined the Association to connect with like-minded professionals and showcase their work in the Fall Parade of Homes. This year, the 2025 Spring Parade of Homes magazine cover features one of their newest builds.

Looking ahead, Cory will pursue a certification as a Phius Builder, which will qualify him to create passive buildings designed for energy efficiency. For Cory and AB Brothers, this certification is another step of commitment to thoughtful, intentional design, ensuring homes are visually stunning but also built for long-term sustainability.

“That’s what I love about being a builder — there’s always room to learn something new and bring value to our clients,” he says.

With a unique and thoughtful design commitment, Cory Althoff and the AB Brothers are redefining homebuilding in Fargo-Moorhead one space at a time.
