Incentives
Investing in remodeling your home or buying a new home makes sense! Check out this information on tax incentives as well as remodeling perks.
If you're planning to build a home, consider the following programs offered by our local communities:
Each of these cities offers a two-year property tax exemption for new construction, applicable to single-family residences, condominiums, and townhouses. This exemption means that you won’t owe property taxes for the first two taxable years after the year in which the construction is completed, and the residence is owned and occupied for the first time. The maximum exemption allowed is $150,000 of the true and full value of improvements only, while the land remains taxable, resulting in approximately $4,000 in savings over two years.
In these cities, homebuyers can also receive a two-year property tax rebate on newly built homes. Unlike North Dakota, there is no maximum value for this rebate, and it applies to both the building and the land. Homebuyers receive a full rebate of general taxes paid to the city, schools, and county at the end of each year for two years. For a $300,000 home, the total value may be more than $7,800 (estimated) savings over the two-year period.

If you already own a home and are considering improvements, some communities also offer incentives. Reach out to your local jurisdiction prior to beginning your project to find out ways you can save.
